Teaching children
Hope mission centre a community based school.This is a project, which envisions in bringing social, economic transformation by educating the less fortunate children in the communities of Githembe slums Nairobi , among others in Kenya.

Who can volunteer

Volunteers need to be 18 years or over to participate, unless volunteering with a parent or guardian. All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance and provide a criminal background check to Hope mission centre’s local team on arrival in Kenya

Volunteer job

As a volunteer working in this project, you will be asked to help in a wide range of activities at the school placement depending on the age group of children and the needs of the project. Volunteer, typically, will be required to execute the following tasks;

Teach in a fun and play way method.
Help in improving the basic vocabulary and language skills of the students.
Spend time with the children at school.
Support the teachers in conducting classes.
Provide assistance in school administrative works.
Help design school curriculums and time tables.
Teach English, music or paintings in the primary school or in the kindergarten school according to your preference and teaching skills.

What to expect

As a volunteer you will expect to meet new people of different cultures.Nairobi city has many people and you will meet some people who don;t understand English bu you will be guided.

Management

At the top is the Board of Directors of the organization. The Board is a legal requirement in order to get it officially registered with the local authorities . Board meetings are kept closed, though written proceedings, reports and minutes may be made public for transparency purposes.
A board may be responsible for a number of tasks, for example hire and supervise the Executive Director, develop and approve budgets, etc. Board members will be expected to champion the organization's cause, and represent the organization to the larger community. Board members to help raise fund for their projects .
Next comes the Executive Director, who may also be called by other names such as Coordinator, Chief Operating Officer, or CEO. He or she is responsible for the overall direction in which the NGO moves, and the responsibility for managing the day-to-day activities of the NGO. The Executive Director is also member of the board - usually its Executive Secretary. He or she reports to the Board.
The Board of Directors and the Executive Director may be assisted by advisors. These advisors are optional, but are useful to create a good image of the NGO, and enhance its "brand name" besides providing specialist advice for the NGO.

Accommodation

Volunteer Accommodations are provided in a volunteer house or in a homestay. The volunteer house is taken care by local host mother and has all the modern amenities available to ensure a comfortable stay for the volunteers. Some of the facilities available are showers, microwave and refrigerator in the kitchen and a lounge area for the volunteers.

$100 per week
$400 per month



Environment

You will arrive at Kenyatta international Aiport and you will meet hope mission centre director.He will pick you with a car to the host family and then the following day you will be oriented and the next day you will be taken to the project.
