 BACKGROUND Kyamaganda Community Development Organization (KCDO) is formerly Kyamaganda Catholic Youth Organization established in 2013 under Masaka Diocese. It is a local Community Based Organization registered under Lwengo District Local Government on Registration No. CD/LDLG/734 in 2013 and is located at Kyamaganda village, Nakateete parish, Kisekka sub county along Masaka- Mbarara highway. In 2013 a group of religious, dynamic and like-minded youth working under Masaka Diocese got together and amalgamated ideas to establish an organization, to address the most humiliating and urgent pressing needs of the community encompassed in capacity building and service delivery to the deprived and marginalized people of the society KCDO has a long-standing desire to support the under privileged and disadvantaged members of the society through its core programmatic interventions of; Environmental Care and Food Security; Education and Early Childhood Development; Water and Sanitation; Integrated Health; Economic Empowerment; and other cross-cutting development issues involving: Gender mainstreaming; Group dynamics and team building; and Evangelization. KCDO is committed and employs participatory approaches to helping communities from village level upwards. It encourages people in the target areas to form Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and strengthen their own local development agenda to ensure improvement in the lives of the people within the operational area. VISSION KCDO exists as an advocate for young people to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them become responsible and fulfilled Christians and adult citizens. MISSION STATEMENT To restore hope to vulnerable community of young people and improve the standards of living through organizing the community to initiate, maintain a healthy living condition, development projects, support and care to vulnerable people and proclaim evangelism. GOAL “An empowered local congregation and community in their HIV and Human transformation” Who can volunteer a) While most educated adults with at least a high-school education and some skills training would find our volunteer opportunities rewarding, individuals with teaching experience and / or with knowledge of and interest in providing instruction in the following areas are particularly welcome: b) Computer and skills-training classes (other than basic computer literacy in Microsoft Office products, no specific skills or prior knowledge is needed; we will teach our volunteers all the information they need to know to conduct skills-training classes) Entrepreneurship and leadership training c) Health education, including HIV/AIDS awareness, nutrition, and basic health and hygiene Agricultural training d) Specific areas of expertise that volunteers may have include (but are not limited to) the following areas: e) Project administration Fundraising experience or with willingness to take on this challenge f) Grant and proposal research and writing g) Social workers and mental / emotional health counselors h) Public health educators i) Agricultural specialists, gardeners and hobbyists. j) Volunteers with focus on Life Skills and Self management, Communication Skills, Hands on Skills like baking, financial management Skills, Career Planning, Health Education. k) Individuals interested in working with children with disabilities. l) Those gifted in Music and can Train and Teach Music Instructors for computer skills classes, entrepreneurship and leadership training. m) Doctors, nurses, medical and nursing students to facilitate medical camps and health workshops. n) Social workers and counselors o) Administrative work Public health educators p) Individuals with fundraising experience or with willingness to take on this challenge q) Grant writing and research IT and library skills . Volunteer job a) Teaching kids in the after-school program ranging from kindergarten, elementary/primary school, secondary school, or in the vocational school. b) Helping students with homework i.e. tutoring c) Work with students on extracurricular activities d) Home visits to child-headed households and families e) Administrative work in our offices f) Preparing progress reports for children who have sponsors g) Social media outreach and blog articles Fundraising activities h) Gardening and training of local farmers on modern farming practices to increase production i) Conducting workshops on community development, human rights, Health awareness, etc. j) Help with seminars on entrepreneurship and leadership training for students and local residents. k) Organizing and running youth camps. Family outreach in the neighboring villages. l) Counseling and career guidance m) Training of music dance and drama for the children's music groups. n) Teaching of children in the discipleship class every weekend. o) Conducting and organization water and sanitation campaigns. p) VSLA women group’s engagements. q) Environment protection campaigns. What to expect We are based in a rural community. However, we have easy access to a main highway for easy transportation to next towns. We are a small community organization with limited funding. However, we use the limited funds efficiently to maximize its impact in the community. A volunteer works on multiple projects to have a broad experience of community work - to understand the struggles people have and the collaborative spirit in the community as we seek solutions to address these challenges. Our program is flexible and we can accommodate the interests of a volunteer based on your skills and experience. Connected to internet, hydro power and solar.
